Known Issues

  • Sadly, I noticed that the Qt support for TIFF images has been moved from the core of the Qt Framework and now an additional plugin is needed which is not shipped within the Steg package.
  • In some cases, when you try to extract data from images without any data inside (data hidden with Steg obviously), you may experience a program crash instead of the normal info dialog. This problem does not affect the data extraction when there is something to extract. The bug was fixed in the actual Steg revision but, for now, it is not released. Thanks to Tyler Hughes for the bug report.
  • Wrong website URL in the current release. I had to change URL but I does not release a new version with the correction.
  • For now, Steg does not fully support JPG images encoded with the YCMK color space (but there is a preliminary support).

What about the license under which I must agree before I'll download and use Steg?

When steg is executed for the first time an End User License Agreement is prompted. At that point you can read it, then accept and use Steg or reject and quit. But in practice there is no strange clauses, only the usual kind of things typical of any freeware software. Take a look at the website home page: there is a little abstract: "The usual disclaimer applies..."
